Complete it and you're qualified to apply for both your Maryland Wear & Carry Permit and your Handgun Qualification License — and you'll leave a safer, more confident armed citizen.

Once you receive your Wear & Carry Permit, your HQL is issued free of charge — two credentials from one class.

Most Marylanders take two separate classes to carry legally. This one course covers both requirements — and it's the most cost-effective path to carrying.

Wear & Carry ready

The full 16 hours of MSP-approved instruction required for a new Wear & Carry Permit application, including your certified qualification score sheet.

HQL covered too

The 16-hour course exceeds the 4-hour HQL training requirement — so this single class qualifies you to apply for your HQL as well.

The weekend

Your two days

Both days run at the GUNTRY Club of Maryland in Owings Mills. Live-fire qualification takes place on Day 2.

Classroom

Maryland law, safe handling and storage, handgun operation, and the foundations of shooting and carrying responsibly.

Day 2 · Sun Oct 117:30a – 5:30p

Classroom + Live Fire Renewal students join here

Remaining instruction, then the live-fire qualification. Pass the MSP course of fire and receive your certified score sheet. Renewal students attend this day to satisfy their renewal training and re-qualification.

Provided for you: firearm, ammunition, eye and ear protection, and DoctorTactical qualification targets — yours to keep.

Does this class get me my permit?

It qualifies you to apply for your Maryland Wear & Carry Permit and your HQL. Permits are issued by the Maryland State Police after their review and background investigation — completing the course is the training step the application requires, not a guarantee of issuance.

Do I get my HQL from this too?

Yes. The 16-hour course exceeds the 4-hour HQL training requirement, so it qualifies you to apply for your HQL. And once your Wear & Carry Permit is issued, your HQL is provided free of charge.

I already have my permit — can I just renew?

Yes. If you're already permitted and due to renew, register for the Day 2 only option on Sunday, October 11 ($200). It covers the renewal training and live-fire re-qualification. New applicants take the full 16-hour course across both days.

I've never handled a firearm. Is this for me?

Yes. The course starts with fundamentals — safe handling, storage, and operation — before any live fire. First-time shooters are welcome and expected.

Do I need my own handgun and ammunition?

Your registration confirmation email covers exactly what's provided and what to bring, including range and fingerprinting details. Reach out before class if you have questions about your equipment.

Is fingerprinting included?

Yes. Live-scan fingerprinting for your application is provided on-site, so you don't need to book a separate appointment or visit another provider on your own. Your confirmation email covers the details.

What happens on range day?

On Day 2 you'll complete the live-fire qualification: a 25-round course of fire with a minimum 70% score. Pass it and you'll receive your certified MSP 29-14 qualification score sheet for your application.
